How to make sure all Android Play Store app updates get installed
Google's Android Play Store app has acquired a strange, annoying behavior about finding updates to install, where it might not find some of the latest updates unless you force an additional search. Here is how that works.
- Run the Play Store app (a multicolored triangle pointed to the right).
- Separately, if at any point it displays an advertisement or alert screen for anything, most likely Google Play Points, choose “No” or “Skip” or “Not now” or whatever bypasses the advertisement screen.
- Tap the round “account” icon in the upper right, normally a lower case “a” on FSGW check-in tablets. That “a” comes from the first letter of the current account, which should be “android#@fsgw.org”, where “#” is the FSGW number for the Android tablet.
- Tap “Manage apps & device”, to display a “Manage apps & device” page. If you don't see “Manage apps & device” to tap, scroll down until you see either that or “My apps and games”, and tap that.
- If you see “Updates available” with a count of updates pending, tap “Update all” below the count, then tap “See details” in the same place. Go to step 11 below.
- If the page says “All apps are up to date”, do not believe that yet. Instead, tap “See recent updates” just below that.
- Tap the “Updates available” button in the row of buttons below the “Manage” tab.
- A “You're all set” icon and text will get displayed, unless updates have just shown up. Tap the “Check for updates” button below that.
- If it re-displays the same “You're all set” icon and text, now you can believe it, all available updates are installed, and you may exit the “Play Store” app.
- If it displays a list of apps with updates available, tap “Overview” near the upper left, then tap “Update all” below the count of updates pending, then tap “See details” in the same place.
- You will see the updates gradually getting downloaded and installed. Once all the updates have installed, go to step 8 above.
- You can be SURE that all available app updates have been installed ONLY after you have tapped the “Check for updates” button and no updates were found.
- Yes, this complexity is annoying. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I can do about that. Remain calm and chive on.
